PotteryI like it that the word sincerity comes from the latin root sine cera, which actually means “without any wax”. The origin is supposed to go back to the time artists were cheating on making cheap sculptures, with marble wherever they could be seen, and cheaper material, where the sculpture would not be easily seen, if it was against a wall. They would patch with wax, which obviously was leeking after a hot day! Therefore, authentic artists would sign their masterpiece “sine cera”, made without was, when they were authentic, and giving as much attention to the entire work of art.
